Viggo Mortensen was born on October 20, 1958 in Manhattan, New York to a Danish father
(Viggo P. Mortensen) and an American mother (Grace). He is the oldest of three boys
(brothers Charles and Walter). He spent his early childhood in New York. His family
then traveled living in Venezuela, Argentina and Denmark. Viggo is fluent in both Spanish
and Danish. He also speaks Swedish, French and Italian to a lesser degree. Viggo graduated
from St. Lawrence University in New York in 1980 with degrees in government and Spanish.
He is divorced from Exene (Christine) Cervenka, lead singer of the punk group X. They have a son, Henry, born in 1988. Viggo is a talented photographer, painter and poet. You can purchase his books and cd's from Perceval Press.
